“Mafia III” To Be Released In 2016; Trailer And In-Game Screenshots Followed

Officially unveiled at Gamescom, the third installment in the series is not going to be developed by 2K Czech. Yes, that is correct, and not too much a surprise either; in a time when game projects are traded as easily as human organs and vice versa, and especially after 2K Games’ sneaky process of subduing Illusion Softworks, first by turning it into a subdivision and now by completely setting it aside and assigning the sequel to another. The company delivered top-notch storytelling even after becoming part of 2K and that is rare indeed; do I have to go back over Monolith Production’s similar fate? Perhaps not.

The gameplay bits and pieces seen so far from “Mafia III,” suggest the continuation of what we saw in “Mafia II,” and from the looks of its forced story concept — “Prototype 2”? Nope, this is worse — the best one could expect is a re-located “Mafia II” with slightly better visuals (“F.3.A.R.” and “Project Origin” come to mind).

Due for release in 2016; with PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 announced as platforms, is Hangar 13’s “Mafia III.” Thankfully no Steam logo can be seen in the trailer but that could mean nothing at this point unless other distributors are confirmed.
